At Maxim, we know our caregivers are the lifeblood of our organization. They are the ones in patient’s homes providing quality care on a daily basis. To ensure that our nurses and caregivers continue to provide the best care to our patients and have the opportunity to advance their careers, we provide several opportunities for training and continuing education.

Continuing education opportunities

The Maxim Rewards Continuing Education Program is a web-based program that allows our caregivers to access training courses when it is convenient for them. Caregivers can earn credits to help them advance their careers and maintain certifications. Transcripts and certificates of completion can be printed from any computer.

Courses cover the following topics:

  • Clinical competence
  • Community nursing
  • Cultural competence
  • Enteral management
  • Infectious disease
  • Home health
  • Leadership/management
  • Medication management
  • Patient education
  • Pediatrics

We also offer other training programs in tracheostomy and ventilator management.

In addition to this program, our local clinical teams invite caregivers in the field into the office for annual Skills Fairs to renew compliance and skills certifications.

Home mechanical ventilation training

Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV) care is complex and requires nurses to respond immediately to protect their patient’s health. Our interactive training program was created through a partnership between Maxim Healthcare Services and Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and prepares nurses for emergency management of home mechanical ventilation.

Our online HMV training modules include:

  • Handling issues with the trach
  • Performing comprehensive safety checks
  • Performing comprehensive respiratory assessments
  • Alarm scenarios
  • Administering the bronchodilator
  • Dealing with a distraught patient

Training programs & University partnerships

If you are just starting out in your career Maxim has a variety of opportunities for you to increase your nursing skills.

We award The Future of Healthcare educational scholarships to students pursuing education or training in the clinical field or the healthcare industry as a whole. These scholarships are open to high school graduates, current college students, or non-traditional students and can be used for current tuition, course costs, on-campus housing expenses and books.

Maxim has also partnered with several colleges and universities to significantly reduce the cost of select degree programs for our caregivers and team members. This includes waivers for application fees, personalized coaching and direct delayed billing. Our current education partners include: Capella University, Chamberlain University, ECPI University, Liberty University, National University, Strayer University, University of Maryland Global Campus and the University of Phoenix.

Our Novice Nurse program is designed to provide a year of hands-on training and support to RNs, LPNs and LVNs with less than one year of experience. Novice Nurses are partnered with an experienced nurse who provides real-time feedback, training and mentorship. Participants in the program gain practical nursing experience, hands-on training and skills advancement opportunities.
